Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic occupies 2/3rds of the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west.

The Dominican Republic has a landmass of 18,791 square miles, fringed by sandy beaches and with a mountainous interior to the island, with fertile plains.

The economy of the Dominican Republic comprises agriculture, mining, some light industries and service industries, and tourism, which is mainly centered along the northern coastline, with a few large resorts also found on the eastern and southern coastline.

The country has several international airports, with the airport at Puerto Plata serving many of the tourist flights from the USA and Europe.

The property market in the Dominican Republic is highly varied and offers properties to meet most peoples pockets, from studio condos to large villas with pools and extensive grounds.  Property prices over many years have steadily risen, with prime land increasing steadily in double digit figures, even through the latest worldwide downturn in property markets.

Construction is varied with many architectural styles from ethnic to ultra modern, and stylish timber and composite construction homes with thatched roofs being used on a good number of homes constructed by the ex-patriot community or for tourist developments.
