Honduras is a Central American country of 42,278 square miles, with Nicaragua to the south and Guatemala and El Salvador to the north west.  Honduras has a substantial coastline with the Caribbean, that includes a number of offlaying islands, and a short western coastline with the Pacific.

Honduras has a mainly mountainous terrain of rainforest, with a narrow coastal plain where much of the countries population of 8.1 million is located.
The economy of Honduras is agricultural based with some forestry and light industry. Tourism is still a minor portion of the economy, except for the areas that have been settled by foreign buyers mainly on the offlaying islands in the Caribbean Sea, with Roatan being possibly the best known of these islands.

The property market for foreign buyers mainly consists of beachfront and sea view land, which is still being sold at very affordable prices, plus the homes and small resorts that have  been constructed by or for foreign nationals.

The design of properties is varied, but tends to be fairly conservative with a mixture of properties constructed mainly from timber and others constructed mainly with reinforced concrete and concrete masonry and almost all houses having corrugated steel roofes, as is common throughout most Caribbean countries.
